4 Steps to Care for Your Leather Briefcase
Once you have made the decision to invest in one of our quality leather briefcases for men, it is going to be advantageous to take care of your investment like you would any other. Here are four important steps to protect your briefcase, ensuring it looks great for years to come.
Condition on a Regular Basis
You will want to apply a high-quality leather conditioner to your leather briefcase at least once a year using a soft sponge or cloth. Work carefully to massage the conditioner into the leather, covering the entire surface. Be sure to wipe off any access conditioner using a clean, dry cloth. If you live in an area that is more arid, you’d be wise to condition your leather briefcase more often. In fact, you may need to condition your leather every couple of months. In areas that experience a lot of humidity, you may find that using a leather conditioner every six months to a year is adequate.
Moisture and leather don’t mix. If water happens to spill on your briefcase, use a dry cloth and blot, don’t rub, the moisture as quickly as possible. Another important note is that if the moisture is the result of winter weather, there is a chance there could be trace amounts of salt-based products in the water or moisture. When this happens, you’ll want to use a moist cloth to blot your briefcase.
If you get caught in a rainstorm, be sure your briefcase completely air dries. In order to do this, you’ll want to lay the briefcase down flat on a level surface to prevent the leather from wrinkling or becoming slouched. Do not place your briefcase near a heat source to try and speed up the drying process, as this will ultimately damage the leather. If possible, stuff the inside of the briefcase with newspaper to help it hold its shape and to absorb moisture from the inside as it is drying.
Remember the Inside
It is important to take care of the outside of your briefcase, but the inside is just as important and should not be neglected. At least once a month, use a slightly damp cloth to wipe down the inside of your briefcase. Be careful to remove any dust that may have accumulated on the lining, along with any residue the items you’ve carried may have left behind. Upon wiping down the inside, you’ll want to leave the briefcase open, allowing the lining to air dry completely.
Store It Right
If you are not going to be needing or using your leather briefcase for a period of time, be sure to store it correctly. You’ll want to find a place away from heat, humidity, sunlight, and dust to protect the leather. It is recommended that you store your briefcase inside a fabric bag or a box when not using it regularly.
When you take the time to care for your quality leather briefcases for men, it will last for years.
